This one-day program is designed to address the unique issues faced by in-house counsel. Sessions are focused on practical, hands-on ways to function in these challenging day-to-day work roles and responsibilities of in-house counsel lawyers. The U.S. health care landscape is undergoing a major evolution due to changing demographics, consumer demand, payer priorities, diminishing geographic boundaries and the convergence of technological and medical innovations. How can in-house counsel representing various sectors of the health care industry plan for the future? Mark S. Zemelman, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., will be this year’s keynote speaker where he will share Kaiser Permanente’s research on the six forces reshaping the healthcare industry that will affect the future delivery of care and their related legal implications. He also will provide in-house counsel with a view as to their important role in guiding their clients through the changing environment. His presentation will offer attendees a thought-provoking vision of healthcare in 2025 to enable you to have a rich dialogue with your clients about future scenarios and how best to respond.

The rest of the day will include in-depth, practical breakout sessions. Some of the breakout sessions topics include:

  • Point/Counterpoint: Negotiating a Hospital’s Acquisition of a Physician Practice
  • Building the Bridge Between Patients and Providers When Care Goes Wrong: Practical Strategies for Implementing a Communication and Resolution Program
  • Evolving Best Practices for Managing Business Associates and Other Vendors in Light of Increasing Cybersecurity and Other Risks

Program Materials

All materials will be available on a website prior to the program and handed out on a flash drive at the program.

All registrants will receive an email a week prior to the program with a link to the materials. This website is for attendees only and is not posted to the public. Cancellation / Substitutions

Cancellations must be received in writing by June 14, 2017. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations received after the cancellation date. Registration fee, minus the $50 administrative fee, will be refunded approximately 3-4 weeks following the program. If you wish to send a substitute, need more information regarding refund, complaint and program cancellation policies please call (202) 833-1100 prompt #5. Note that the registration fee is based on the AHLA membership status of the individual who actually attends the program.
