The Fundamentals of Health Law program is a valuable training program for new associates and in-house counsel, compliance officers, consultants, and others who advise health care clients. It is also an excellent refresher for experienced health lawyers and health professionals. The program's faculty not only dispenses their knowledge of legal issues, but they also provide insight into the challenges ahead in order to help attendees build an effective legal practice. Attendees will benefit from the opportunity to meet colleagues from across the country and build their professional networks.

The program offers an array of health law topics, including:

  • Fundamentals of Medicare Parts A-B
  • Fundamentals of Medicare Parts C-D
  • Fundamentals of Medicaid
  • The Stark Law
  • Anti-Kickback Statute
  • The False Claims Act
  • Corporate Compliance and Corporate Governance
  • Privacy and Security

The program will begin on Sunday, November 11 at 12:30 pm and end on Tuesday, November 13 at around 4:00 pm.

Program Materials

All materials will be available on a website prior to and after the program.

All registrants will receive an email a week prior to the program with a link to the materials. This website is for attendees only and is not posted to the public. Cancellation / Substitutions

Cancellations must be received in writing and sent to Dorothy Johnson: Registration fee, minus the $125 administrative fee, will be refunded approximately 3-4 weeks following the program in the same form of tender as the original payment. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations received after the cancellation date, to include no-shows.

Substitutions will be accepted, in writing to AHLA (, up to 2 business days prior to the event date on a one time basis. Note, that the registration fee is based on AHLA membership status of the individual who actually attends the program. Non-member substitutes will be charged the fee difference if they are substituting for a member-discounted registration. An administrative fee of $125 will be charged for a substitution request.

Transfer to an upcoming event within one year of equal or higher value is available on a one time basis only, and should be received in writing to AHLA ( ) no later than 2 business days prior to the event. An administrative fee of $125 will be charged for a transfer request.

Continuing Education

CLE/MCLE: AHLA will be applying for 17.75 credits (including 1.0 ethics credits) for 60-minute states and approximately 21.3 (including 1.2 ethics credits) credits for 50-minute states. The number of credits approved may vary state to state.

CPE: This seminar will be worth approximately 21.0 CPE credits. AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. CCB: This education activity has been submitted to the Compliance Certification Board (CCB)® and is currently pending their review for approval of CCB CEUs. We will be applying for 21.3 CCB credits

This program is designed to be an update on developments in the area of health care law. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparations required to register for this group live program. Those seeking accounting credits should be familiar with the basic concepts of law and terminology associated with this area in order to obtain the full educational benefit of this program. Introductory remarks, breaks, luncheons, and receptions are not included in the computation of credit hours. Participants will be given continuing education request forms at the program. Forms must be completed and returned to AHLA staff to receive credit. The sessions, unless otherwise designated, are fundamental in level. There are no prerequisites required to register for this program.
