Every year, this program brings together legal counsel, compliance officers, and government representatives for an invaluable learning and networking opportunity. The plenary session for this year’s Fraud and Compliance Forum will provide the audience with an inside look at Tuomey False Claims Act case. This lively panel discussion titled–The Insiders’ Perspective on Tuomey: A Relator, A Prosecutor and a Defense Attorney walk into a bar…–will feature the attorneys directly involved in the Tuomey litigation, Tracy Hilmer from DOJ, Dan Mulholland from Horty Springer & Mattern PC, and Sandy Miller from Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice LLP. Counsel will address the differing views of the underlying facts, trial strategy, and the challenges inherent in attempting to explain the Stark Law to a judge or jury. Both the moderator, Robert Homchick, and the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel. You don’t want to miss it!

The program will begin on Wednesday, October 5 at 1:00 pm and end on Friday, October 7 at 3:30 pm. As always, we will offer CLE, CPE, and CCB credits, which will include an array of sessions that are of interest to those looking for fundamentals sessions and those looking for more intermediate/advanced sessions that will allow them to delve into their specific areas of interest. The program includes Stark, False Claims Act, HIPAA, Anti-kickback primer sessions schedule on the first afternoon, so attendees can get up to speed on what they need to know. The program planning committee worked very hard to design a program that covers what you need to know with high-quality speakers and take-away materials.

Cancellation / Substitutions

Cancellations must be received in writing by September 26, 2016. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations received after the cancellation date. Registration fee, minus the $125 administrative fee, will be refunded approximately 3-4 weeks following the program. Note that the registration fee is based on the AHLA membership status of the individual who actually attends the program.

Continuing Education

CLE/MCLE: AHLA will be applying for 17.0 credits (including 2.0 ethics credits) for 60-minute states and approximately 20.4 (including 2.4 ethics credits) credits for 50-minute states. The number of credits approved may vary state to state.

CPE: This seminar will be worth approximately 20.0 CPE credits. AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. CCB: AHLA will be applying for 20.4 Compliance Certification Board (CCB) credits.

This program is designed to be an update on developments in the area of fraud and abuse and compliance issues. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparations required to register for this group live program. Those seeking accounting credits should be familiar with the basic concepts of law and terminology associated with this area in order to obtain the full educational benefit of this program. Introductory remarks, breaks, luncheons, and receptions are not included in the computation of credit hours. Participants will be given continuing education request forms at the program. Forms must be completed and returned to AHLA staff to receive credit. The sessions, unless otherwise designated, are intermediate to advanced in level. There are no prerequisites required to register for this program.
