The annual Academic Medical Centers program, co-sponsored with National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), is designed to address the legal issues unique to teaching hospitals and academic medical centers. This program attracts in-house and outside counsel for the nation's leading teaching hospitals and provides an excellent environment for the sharing of best practices and the exploration of new issues.

Topics include:

  • Fraud and Abuse Update for AMCs
  • Data Sharing for Clinical Integration and other “Big Data” Initiatives
  • Our Devices, Ourselves: The Use of Mobile Technologies in Health Care Delivery and Biomedical Research
  • Incidental Findings in Genomic Research: Ethics, Law and Practicality

The planning committee strives to plan a high quality, practical program that will meet the educational needs of our members. If you practice in this area, you won't want to miss it! Members of NACUA and AAMC are eligible to register at AHLA's member rate. See the registration form for details. The program will kick-off at 8:00 am, Thursday, March 9 and end at 4:45 pm, Friday, March 10.

Program Materials

All materials will be available on a website prior to and after the program and handed out on a flash drive at the program.

All registrants will receive an email a week prior to the program with a link to the materials. This website is for attendees only and is not posted to the public. Cancellation / Substitutions

Cancellations must be received in writing by February 27, 2017. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations received after the cutoff date. Registration fee, minus the $125 administrative fee, will be refunded approximately 3-4 weeks following the program. If you wish to send a substitute, need more information regarding refund, complaint and program cancellation policies please call (202) 833-1100 prompt #5. Note that the registration fee is based on the AHLA membership status of the individual who actually attends the program.

Continuing Education

CLE/MCLE: AHLA will be applying for 13.0 credits (including 2.0 ethics credits) for 60-minute states and approximately 15.6 (including 2.4 ethics credits) credits for 50-minute states. The number of credits approved may vary state to state. Introductory remarks, breaks, luncheons, and receptions are not included in the computation of credit hours. Participants will be given CLE Request forms at the program. Forms must be completed and returned to AHLA staff to receive credit. The sessions, unless otherwise designated, are intermediate to advanced in level. There are no prerequisites required to register for this program.

CPE: This seminar will be worth approximately 15.0 CPE credits. AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. CCB: AHLA will be applying for 15.6 Compliance Certification Board (CCB) credits.

This program is designed to be an update on developments in the area of academic medical centers issues. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparations required to register for this group live program. Those seeking accounting credits should be familiar with the basic concepts of law and terminology associated with this area in order to obtain the full educational benefit of this program.
