This year's conference promises to be an exciting and informative meeting where some of the leading in-house and outside lawyers for the long term care industry will be presenting on legal, compliance, and operational issues faced by providers. Sessions will focus on cutting edge issues that are front and center within the post-acute continuum.

Sessions are geared towards Nursing Facility (NF); Assisted Living (AL), and/or Home Health (HH) audiences. AHLA programs are distinguished by the expertise as well as the range of perspectives our speakers offer. The program’s faculty is comprised of representatives from all areas of the post-acute and long term care services spectrum. The faculty will provide insight and analysis on regulatory changes, operation management, transactions, and compliance. Sessions included:

  • Anticipating and Managing Violence in Senior Care
  • Home Health and Hospice M&A Transactions: Legal, Compliance, and Due Diligence Challenges
  • Legal and Practical Considerations in Analyzing Potential Overpayments
  • Secure Messaging in Nursing Facility Patient Care: HIPAA Challenges, Survey Scrutiny, and Possible Solutions
  • Emergency Preparedness

The program offers two interactive sessions - Advanced Anti-Kickback and General Counsel Roundtable (In-House Counsel only). These sessions are limited to 35 participants and pre-registration is required.

Supporting Organizations: American Health Care Association, National Center for Assisted Living, LeadingAge, Argentum, and National Association for Homecare and Hospice. Members of these organizations are eligible for the AHLA member registration rate using a promotion code.

Program Materials

All materials will be available on a website prior to and after the program.

All registrants will receive an email a week prior to the program with a link to the materials. This website is for attendees only and is not posted to the public. Cancellation / Substitutions

Cancellations must be received in writing and sent to Dorothy Johnson: Registration fee, minus the $125 administrative fee, will be refunded approximately 3-4 weeks following the program in the same form of tender as the original payment. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations received after the cancellation date, to include no-shows.

Substitutions will be accepted, in writing to AHLA (, up to 2 business days prior to the event date on a one time basis. Note, that the registration fee is based on AHLA membership status of the individual who actually attends the program. Non-member substitutes will be charged the fee difference if they are substituting for a member-discounted registration. An administrative fee of $125 will be charged for a substitution request.

Transfer to an upcoming event within one year of equal or higher value is available on a one time basis only, and should be received in writing to AHLA ( ) no later than 2 business days prior to the event. An administrative fee of $125 will be charged for a transfer request.

Continuing Education

CLE/MCLE: AHLA will be applying for 17.75 credits (including 1.0 ethics credits) for 60-minute states and approximately 21.3 (including 1.2 ethics credits) credits for 50-minute states. The number of credits approved may vary state to state.

CPE: This seminar will be worth approximately 21.0 CPE credits. AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. CCB: AHLA will be applying for 21.3 Compliance Certification Board (CCB) credits.

NHA: AHLA was approved for 17.0 Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) credits.

This program is designed to be an update on developments in the area of post-acute and long term care issues. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparations required to register for this group live program. Those seeking accounting credits should be familiar with the basic concepts of law and terminology associated with this area in order to obtain the full educational benefit of this program. Introductory remarks, breaks, luncheons, and receptions are not included in the computation of credit hours. Participants will be given continuing education request forms at the program. Forms must be completed and returned to AHLA staff to receive credit. The sessions, unless otherwise designated, are intermediate to advanced in level. There are no prerequisites required to register for this program.
