CMS Extends New Enrollment Moratoria for Ambulance Suppliers and Home Health Agencies
Under its authority provided by Section 6401(a) of the Affordable Care Act (Social Security Act §1866(j)(7)), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published a notice on January 29 that the moratoria on the enrollment of new Ambulance Suppliers and Home Health Agencies in certain geographic locations has been extended. CMS supported its extension based in large part on consultation with various law enforcement agencies for purposes of identifying ongoing risk for fraud, waste, and abuse; and with various state agencies to determine the impact of the moratoria on beneficiary access to care. This extension period is for six months, at which time it is expected that CMS will again reevaluate the moratoria.
The notice includes two tables showing the geographic locations for the Ambulance Supplier and Home Health Agency locations impacted by the now extended moratoria.
