Meaningful Use: The Fundamentals

Description

This session provides an overview of the fundamentals of the Meaningful Use (MU) Program, including a description of the policy goals behind the program, its design in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act and implementing regulations, and how it works. The tutorial discusses the three fundamental MU requirements, and how the incentive payments work under the Medicare incentive program. While the tutorial discusses each of the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and physician as well as hospital payments, most of the focus is on the Medicare incentive program for physicians. The tutorial further discusses the continuing evolution of the MU objectives and measures through its three stages, and touches on how the program is done to date and how it is positioned to meet its future goals.
