Health Information and Technology Practice Group Mid-Year Luncheon

Wednesday, February 13, 2013
11:50 am-1:05 pm

At the Hospitals and Health Systems Law Institute
February 12-13, 2013
JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa, Phoenix, AZ

Title: HIPAA Security Risk Assessment

Description:

Hospital and Health System counsel often face many technical and operational issues with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Security rule compliance, including meeting the risk assessment and compliance documentation standards under the rule. Establishing and documenting a risk assessment and correcting any deficiencies is now required as a core objective under the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Program, and hospitals and eligible professionals must attest to this objective. Join our panel to get an overview of the relevant security standards, the technical and operational issues involved in conducting a security risk assessment, and an in-house perspective on operational issues, including setting expectations when working with IT professionals and consultants and establishing compliance documentation.

Panelists:

    Chris Bowen MBA, CIPP/US, CIPP/IT
