As the premier provider of continuing education for the health law profession, AHLA is uniquely positioned to provide you with all the Continuing Legal Education (CLE), Compliance Certification Board (CCB), and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits you need through our events, trainings, and educational offerings. Please see below for more information on the different ways AHLA offers Continuing Education Credits. 

Types of Credit

CLE: AHLA Educational Team determines credit hours by dividing the running time of instructional programs by either 60 or 50 minutes. For example, a 60-minute program may earn 1.0 hours of CLE credit in a state that bases its credit on a 60-minute credit hour, and 1.2 hours in a state that bases its credit on a 50-minute credit hour. For more information, tailored to your state, please refer to our Continuing Education Credit Reporting Information. 

CCB: Compliance credits are calculated based on a fifty-minute hour. Compliance professionals are required to self-report their credits to HCCA using the certificate provided by AHLA.

CPE: Professional/Accounting credits are calculated based on a fifty-minute hour. 
AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be addressed to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors, 150 Fourth Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37219-2417. Website: www.nasba.org​. Participants wishing to obtain CPE credits for their attendance must sign in and out of each session they attend when programs are in-person, as well as completing and submitting a Continuing Education Request Form to comply with the NASBA certification procedures.  

Ways to Obtain Continuing Education Credits

Live In-Person Programs

AHLA holds 11 live in-person events each year. For each event, AHLA will apply for three types of credit, CLE, CCB, and CPE. To meet an attendee's level of expertise, sessions are offered at various levels (introductory, intermediate, or advanced) tailored to their professional development. Apart from the Fundamentals of Health Law program (a basic program), all of our in-person programs are considered as updates on the topic area being addressed. While there are no pre-requisites or advanced preparations required to attend in-person programs, those seeking credits should be familiar with the basic concepts of law associated with the topic of the program to obtain the full educational benefit. The majority of our live in-person programs offer sessions on Legal Ethics/Professionalism credits to help attendees fulfill their requirements from the state. For more information concerning how many credits a specific program offers, please visit the individual program’s website. 

To track credits in-person, all attendees will be provided a bar code on their badge. Use it to scan in and out of all the sessions attended. Following the program, we will calculate the number of minutes attended to determine the number of credit hours obtained during the program and provide a Certificate of Completion. 

Live Virtual Programs (Distance Learning)

AHLA will occasional hold a program virtually. See a list of our upcoming live virtual programs. 

To track credits during a live virtual event, participants must note the attendance verification code for each session that will randomly appearing on the screen during the presentation. These codes are then noted on the Continuing Education Request Form submitted online. Attendees must input the correct code and number of minutes to be awarded credit.

Live Webinars (Distance Learning)

AHLA offers numerous live webinars throughout the year. All of our live webinars are eligible for CLE and CPE credits. There are some webinars that are also eligible for CCB credits. For more information, see our list of all upcoming live webinars.   

We will apply in advanced for CLE credit approval in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. We will apply to Delaware and Minnesota upon request. In states that are not pre-approved, it is still possible to obtain CLE credit by applying directly to the state’s accrediting body where applicable. Pertinent supporting documents (agenda, description, written materials, and certificates of completion) are made available for attorneys who wish to self-report their attendance. Please refer to the Continuing Education Credit Reporting Information to review reporting procedure in these states. 

We will apply in advanced for CCB credits for webinars that cover the area of compliance. Check the webinar website to see if it is approved for compliance credits. 

To track credits during a live webinar, attendees must be logged into the webinar for at least 75 minutes. Once the webinar is complete, click on the Evaluation tab. Once the evaluation is completed, click and complete the “Attendance” tab by entering the verification code from the live webinar. Once the attendance verification tab is complete, click the “CLE and Certificate” tab to automatically generate a certificate of completion with the correct credit amount for each of your state(s).

Please note, Live Educational Calls, although substantive and interactive, are not eligible for Continuing Education credits.  

On Demand Recordings (Distance Learning)

AHLA offers many ways to obtain credits through self-study. Self-study includes recordings of our in-person and virtual programs (ePrgrams) and webinars. Many states will designated a certain number of credits each year that can be obtained through self-study. Please visit your state bar website for the number credits allowed. For a list of our self-study offerings, see a list of our ePrograms or recorded webinars. 

As of June 2020, AHLA applies for CLE (in all states), CPE, and CCB credits for all our ePrograms. The number of credits available varies state to state. Specific credit information is available in the product information in our Education Center. 

Obtaining a Certificate of Completion

Certificates can only be generated if we have your state and bar license information, which is located in your “My AHLA” account. Your license information must be updated prior to the start of an event. If you update your license information, please be sure to log out and log back into your AHLA account prior to claiming credit.   

To obtain a Certificate of Completion for a live in-person program, regardless of license type (e.g. CLE, CPE, CCB), simply do the following:

 1.       Log into our Education Center Please note: You do not need to be a member to log into our website and access your certificates.

2.       Under Course Overview, you’ll see the Program Name. Click into the course.

3.       You will see the Program Information > Click ‘Next >’.

4.       You should see your CEU Certificates. The certificates are based on the license information we have for you in your AHLA profile.

Obtaining Speaker/Instructor Credits

Faculty interested in earning Speaker/Faculty credit, must fill out this form, in its entirety (any submissions that are missing information, will not receive credit). Certificates will be e-mailed from our Continuing Education Team, please save these document(s) when you receive them, for your records. Please Note: Faculty Certificates will not be available in your AHLA Speaker Portal and/or the Education Center and the amount of credit hours Faculty can earn varies from licensure type and governing bodies. Credit Reporting  

AHLA is required by some states to report CLE credit hours. Following an event, AHLA will report the attendee's hours, along with any specialty credits obtained. In some states, participants can self-report their hours with the Certificate of Completion generated after an event. If you are unclear on how credits are reported for your state, refer to our Continuing Education Credit Reporting Information.

CCB and CPE credits are self-reported. AHLA will provide a Certificate of Completion. along with any approval codes required.
