Richard L. Shackelford
Rick Shackelford is a retired partner of King & Spalding’s Atlanta, GA, office and was formerly a member of the firm’s Healthcare Practice and Business Litigation Groups. Throughout his long career, Mr. Shackelford represented health systems, academic medical centers, pharmacy providers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, health plans, pharmacy benefits managers, managed care organizations and physician organizations in connection with government investigations and a wide variety of litigation and regulatory matters. He represented healthcare clients in the defense of civil False Claims Act actions, government investigations, and whistleblower actions. He also litigated numerous complex matters for health care clients in federal and state courts around the country, including class actions. He regularly advised health care clients on federal and state regulatory issues, including self disclosures, compliance, fraud and abuse, managed care, peer review/medical staff and certificate of need.
Mr. Shackelford has been a frequent lecturer and writer on False Claims Act investigations and health care
regulatory, fraud and abuse, compliance and healthcare litigation issues. He is a Past President of the American Health Lawyers Association.
