Congress and Health 2005

Held Wednesday, December 15, 2004

Health Lawyers' Fall 2004 public interest teleconference series concluded with Congress and Health 2005. The speakers were:

  • Cybele Bjorklund, Democratic staff director for the Ways and Means Health Subcommittee in the United States House of Representatives, Washington, DC
  • Mark Hayes, Health Policy Advisor to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Washington, DC
  • Eugene M. Tillman, Partner and Director of Legal Personnel, Reed Smith, LLP, Washington, DC (moderator.)

Hayes and Bjorklund discussed Congress' 2005 health policy agenda, addressing such topics as coverage of the uninsured, medical liability reform, technical amendments to the Medicare prescription drug benefit statute, healthcare spending reductions, and encouragement of health information technology.

At the conclusion of their moderated discussion, the speakers responded to questions from teleconference participants.
