AHLA Honors Past Leaders with 2009 Class of Fellows
WASHINGTON, DC, July 17, 2009 – The American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) is pleased to announce that Ivan Wood Jr. has been named the newest addition to the AHLA Fellows. The Fellows program was established in May 2004 and recognizes the expertise and contributions of many of the Association’s life-long volunteer leaders, and provides a forum for the Fellows to remain active in and contribute to AHLA’s success.
Mr. Wood, a partner with the law firm of Strasburger and Price LLP in Houston, TX, is a former member of AHLA’s Board of Directors, from 1997-2001, and is a longtime member with distinguished history of service to the American Health Lawyers Association.
Peter M. Leibold, Executive Vice President/CEO of AHLA, praised Mr. Wood: “Ivan’s election as a Fellow speaks volumes about the esteem in which he is held by his colleagues. We look forward to his continuing contributions to the health law bar.”
This year’s Fellows election also included the selection of two Emeritus Fellows, a distinction for past leaders of AHLA and its predecessor organizations who were not in active practice when the Fellows program was started. The two newest Emeritus Fellows are James F. Doherty Sr. of Chevy Chase, MD, and Jack C. Wood, of Houston, TX. Mr. Doherty was former General Counsel of the Group Health Association of America, and was a past president of the National Health Lawyers Association from 1976-1979. Mr. Wood was a partner with the law firms of Wood Lucksinger & Epstein, and Vinson & Elkins LLP. He also served as past president of the American Academy of Healthcare Attorneys, 1974-1975.
The newest class of Fellows were recognized at the American Health Lawyers Annual Meeting in Washington, DC in June 2009. For a full list of Fellows, go to www.healthlawyers.org/fellows.
