Title: The Role of Academic Medical Centers in Healthcare Reform

Presenter:

Description:

Given the recent attention to and progress toward national healthcare reform, Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D-PA) will give an update on how these reforms will affect academic medical centers. As Vice Chair of the House Budget Committee and a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, Congresswoman Schwartz has played a central role in developing the healthcare reform legislation. She is the founder and co-chair of the Congressional Academic Medicine Caucus and has been particularly involved in crafting provisions that will affect academic medical centers. She will discuss changes to graduate medical education payments, disproportionate share funding, loan repayment programs for medical students, innovative delivery system models like Health Care Innovation Zones, and geographic variation in Medicare spending, while also giving an update on healthcare reform more broadly.
