The IRS recently issued its long-awaited final report regarding the results of its 2006 study of nonprofit hospitals. The contents of the report were described in an Executive Summary previously issued by the Business Law and Governance and Tax and Finance Practice Groups. Now, providing further insights into the IRS' conclusions and their anticipated next steps, IRS TE/GE Commisssioner Steven T. Miller and EO Director Lois G. Lerner recently sat down with AHLA Tax & Finance Practice Group Chair Linda Moroney and Vice Chair Jim King to discuss the IRS' views on the implications of the Report, and what the future may hold as the IRS continues its scrutiny of the tax-exempt hospitals sector.
