The Payors, Plans, and Managed Care (PPMC) Practice Group is proud to announce the second year of its mentoring program (Program). Started last year, the Program continues and expands upon the overall goal to promote and grow the involvement of AHLA members in the practice of healthcare law, and the specific goals of: (i) promoting leadership, self development, and professional competencies; (ii) providing opportunities for career planning and development; (iii) providing an increased understanding of work environments and legal opportunities; and (iv) providing guidance on specific fields of interest within the healthcare arena.
We ask that you consider participating either as a mentor to a lawyer new to the healthcare field, or as a mentee in the Program. If you have been practicing in the healthcare arena for seven years or more, you can volunteer to become a mentor; those lawyers who have been practicing healthcare law for less than seven years are encouraged to sign up to become a mentee.
Please review the 2009 New Lawyer Mentoring Program Guiding Principles, which incorporate feedback received from last year’s Program participants and which strengthen and clarify our goals for Program participation. Your submission of a participation form will evidence your agreement to these Guiding Principles.
The PPMC Practice Group continues to believe that the Program is extremely beneficial, providing general support, a listening ear, and assistance in development and growth within AHLA. Please take a few minutes and submit the enrollment form that applies to you. Even if you participated in the Program last year as a mentor or mentee, please submit a new application. Please note that we will make every effort to pair mentors and mentees whose applications are received during the period of April 1, 2009, through September 30, 2009 (and the ability to effectuate pairings largely will rest on the level of participation). Mentor and mentee applications received after September 30 likely will not be considered until the 2010 Program year unless there are mentors or mentees whose applications were received prior to September 30 that have not yet been paired. Thus, if you are interested in participating in this year’s Program, we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.
If you have questions, please contact Magda Wencel, Practice Groups Administrator.
