Description
This webinar will discuss key business and legal considerations in healthcare initiatives in the Middle East, with a particular focus on academic and entrepreneurial ventures—including hospital and pharmaceutical operations—in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Numerous universities and schools of medicine, hospitals, and healthcare entrepreneurs have embarked in recent years on projects in the Middle East. Many more have potential projects in varying stages of development. While varying in nature from education and research to patient care to drugs, devices, and equipment, these projects all have to navigate issues unfamiliar to many U.S. participants. Some arise from traditions of Shari’ah, or Islamic law, which has prohibitions on interest that impose unique financing restrictions. Others arise from restrictions that, while unique in their particulars, are more common in U.S. operations, such as ownership and licensing requirements and incentives for investment.
