Training Description
This new mediation training conducted by attorneys Jane Reister Conard, Esquire and Jeanne F. Franklin, Esquire is a course for those who have experience or are developing a practice of mediating healthcare conflict. This training will emphasize the skills needed specifically for the resolution of healthcare disputes.
You will learn to:
- Apply a range of mediative skills to case studies "taken from the healthcare headlines."
- Acknowledge and benefit from the similarities of the medical model and the mediation model (a useful technique to explain the mediation process).
- Anticipate potential impediments in mediation resulting from cultural influences of the healthcare system, professional perspectives, and mis-aligned goals.
- Avoid ethical dilemmas and confidentiality challenges related to proprietary and professional matters.
By completing this training, you will take away:
- Sample forms and checklists to assure diligent preparation for mediation
- Unique insights on healthcare mediation to promote effective outcomes
- Skills and strategies to apply to increasingly complex healthcare issues
- An opportunity to join the roster of Mediators in AHLA's ADR Service
- A Certificate of Completion

Program Materials
All materials will be distributed on site in the training room at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Hotel on the day of the program.
CLE/CPE Information
This session will be worth approximately 5.9 credits for 60-minute states and approximately 7.1 credits for 50-minute states. Participants will be given CLE Request forms at the program. Forms must be completed and returned to Carine Brice, ADR Administrator to receive credit. AHLA is an approved sponsor of continuing legal education credits in most states. There are no prerequisites required to register for this session.
CPE: AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Cancellation/Substitution Policy
Cancellations must be received in writing no later than Thursday, February 3, 2011 in order to receive a refund of registration fees, minus a $200 administrative fee. Due to the limited attendance permitted at this program, no refunds can be made after the February 3rd date because of insufficient time to register other attendees.
