Program Description
Sessions at the Hospitals Law Institute will provide a focused analysis of the legal challenges faced by hospitals and their counsel. Attendees will gain a greater understanding on the following:

  • Alternatives to The Joint Commission
  • A Director’s Guide to Governance Under the New Form 990
  • Government Investigations and False Claims Act Update
  • Quality and Peer Oversight in the “Never Events” Era
  • The Intersection of Quality and Compliance

Attendees can register for just one of the programs or "add-on" the Physicians and Physician Organizations Law Institute and attend three days of programming (February 9-11) for a more comprehensive look at the intertwined and distinct legal issues facing two of the most important components of the healthcare community.

Attendees will benefit from the joint plenary session where two leading private practitioners will give a comprehensive overview of the top legal developments for Hospitals and Physicians. Breakout sessions that will examine the legal issues for physicians and hospitals in depth include:

  • The Current State of Physician Restrictive Covenants, Economic vs. Lifestyle Motivations, and Creative Ways to Protect Market Share
  • Recovery Audit Contactors and Medicare Audits
  • The Nuts and Bolts of Self-Disclosure
  • Methodology and Considerations for Supporting FMV of High Level Physician Compensation
  • The New Gainsharing: Incentive Payment and Shared Savings Programs

Practice Group Luncheons
Several Practice Groups will be holding their mid-year luncheons at the Physicians and Hospitals Law Institute. All attendees are welcome to register, there is an additional fee and attendance is limited. 

CLE Information
This program will be worth approximately 11.75 credits (including 2.0 ethics credit) for 60-minute states and approximately 14.1 credits (including 2.4 ethics credit) for 50-minute states. Participants will be given CLE Request forms at the program. Forms must be completed and returned to AHLA staff to receive credit. The sessions, unless otherwise designated, are intermediate to advanced in level. There are no prerequisites required to register for this program.

This seminar will be worth approximately 14.0 CPE credits. AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. This program is designed to be an update on developments in the area of hospitals and health systems. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparations required to register for this group live program. Those seeking accounting credits should be familiar with the basic concepts of law and terminology associated with this area in order to obtain the full educational benefit of this program.
