Program Description
The annual Academic Medical Centers program is designed to address the legal issues unique to teaching hospitals and academic medical centers. This program attracts in-house and outside counsel for the nation's leading teaching hospitals and provides an excellent environment for the sharing of best practices and the exploration of new issues. As always, sessions will tackle some of the most cutting-edge and controversial issues in health law and provide concrete advice to attendees on how to handle them.
Joanne Silberner from National Public Radio (NPR) will give this year’s keynote address. In addition, the general session will include a panel discussion on Conflicts of Interest. Breakout sessions include Research Misconduct, Reimbursement for GME Under Medicaid, Stark and Fraud and Abuse for AMCs, The ABCs of Immigration Laws, Vendor Relationships, Legal Issues and Challenges in the Integration of Faculty Practice Plans and Practical Models for Success, International Clinical Activities and Research, False Claims Act Update for AMCs and Governance, Community Benefit and Compensation.

January 29. Edward B. Goldman will discuss "Crisis Management: Flying the Not so Friendly Skies." This luncheon is open to all attendees and speakers.

CLE Information
This program will be worth approximately 11.75 credits (including 1.0 ethics credit) for 60-minute states and approximately 14.1 credits (including 1.2 ethics credit) for 50-minute states. Participants will be given CLE Request forms at the program. Forms must be completed and returned to AHLA staff to receive credit. The sessions, unless otherwise designated, are intermediate to advanced in level. There are no prerequisites required to register for this program.
This seminar will be worth approximately 14.0 CPE credits. AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. There are no prerequisites or advanced preparations required to register for this group live program. Those seeking accounting credits should be familiar with the basic concepts of law and terminology associated with the area of academic medical centers in order to obtain the full educational benefit of this program.
