Program Description

Advanced Mediation Training—Mediation in Theory and Practice will explore the relationship between the theoretical role and the practical tools of the mediator. The course includes:
  • Interactive lectures and demonstrations of advanced mediation techniques;
  • An opportunity for each participant to discuss his/her mediation success and failure and the practice tools used to enhance mediation success;
  • A lecture on advanced theoretical and psychological barriers to resolution and discussion with participants on the techniques most appropriate to overcome those barriers;
  • Sample scenarios that pose challenges to mediators with the most effective techniques identified for dealing with these scenarios;
  • Interaction by participants in the mediation of a healthcare dispute and in the debriefing of this dispute.

By completing this training, you will:

  • Understand advanced mediation techniques as an aid to negotiation within the stages of the mediation process;
  • Be able to apply advanced techniques of negotiation to assist parties to negotiate their own settlements;
  • Understand the application of theoretical frameworks to real world experiences;
  • Be able to apply the most appropriate techniques to overcome the advanced theoretical and psychological barriers to resolution;
  • Be able to identify the most effective techniques for dealing with scenarios that pose challenges to mediators;
  • Be awarded a Certificate of Advanced Mediator Training from Health Lawyers;
  • Receive CLE credits.

Attendance is limited to 24 participants on a first come, first serve basis. We are unable to accomodate any onsite registrations.

Training will be conducted by the internationally-recognized mediator, arbitrator, administrator and trainer, Jerry P. Roscoe of JAMS, who consistently receives outstanding evaluations from attendees.

Each registrant will be awarded a Certificate of Mediator Training and will be given the opportunity to sign-up as a Mediator in Health Lawyers' ADR Service.

This session will be worth approximately 6.5 credits for 60-minute states and approximately 7.8 credits for 50-minute states. There are no prerequisites required to register for this session.
