Annual Meeting

June 27-29, 2005

As the culmination of Health Lawyer's educational year, the Annual Meeting provides a forum for networking and interaction with colleagues, friends, and family as well as an outstanding educational event. This year's program will include a keynote address, the always popular Year in Review, and more than 35 breakout sessions. Sessions will provide updates and analysis on the most important issues facing health lawyers, including:

  • Hospital-Physician Financial Relationships: When Do They Cross the Line into Healthcare Fraud and Abuse?
  • Service Line Joint Ventures
  • Physician Recruitment and Retention: An Advanced Look at Real Life Concerns
  • Consumer Directed Healthcare
  • Hospital Billing Practices and Discounts to the Uninsured
  • Ten Things About the New Part D Drug Benefit that Your Clients Will Expect You to Know
  • Hot Issues in Clinical Research
  • Peer Review Litigation Update
  • Key Considerations for EMTALA Compliance Plans
  • Proactive Malpractice: Disclosing and Resolving Adverse Outcomes
  • The New Law of Kickbacks and Bribery Implications for Healthcare Attorneys
  • Anti-Kickbacks and Enforcement: Current OIG Initiatives
  • The Quest for Interoperable Electronic Health Records
  • The Future of Physician-Hospital Relations: Competitors or Collaborators?
  • Ethical and Legal Aspects of End-of-Life Treatment in the Institutional Setting
  • Long Term Care Update
  • Issues Involving Drugs and Devices and more

In addition to the high quality of education, the program will include a number of social and networking opportunities: each Practice Group will sponsor a luncheon meeting with presentation; table topic discussions will take place during breakfast; attendees and their guest are invited to a Welcome Reception on Sunday evening; and the dinner dance on Monday evening. There is also an off-property reception at Sea World on Tuesday night. Program and guest registration include early admittance to Sea World starting at 2:30 pm. Transportation will be provided so that attendees and registered guest can go to Sea World to enjoy the shows and exhibits on their own prior to joining AHLA for a dinner reception starting at 6:00 pm. The evening will be capped off with fireworks.
