Program Description
This year's Technology and Health Program in San Francisco will include breakout sessions in six major areas: Security, Contracting, Advanced HIPAA Issues, Clinical Research, HIPAA Enforcement, and Ethics. These breakout sessions will emphasize practical advice for lawyers with written outlines including checklists and sample forms.
Some of the topics already chosen by the Planning Committee include:
- A Primer on Security Basics
- HIPAA and Technology Contracts: Software Licensing, Outsourcing and Web Hosting
- Drafting and Implementing Effective Security Policies and Procedures
- Keys to Healthcare Outsourcing Success
There also will be a plenary session highlighting the findings of the 2003 Public Interest Colloquium, Minimizing Medical Errors: Legal Issues in the Debate on Improving Patient Safety, and examining the key legal and policy issues relating to the effective deployment of information technology to reduce medical errors.
This program is designed to benefit lawyers with various levels of technology sophistication. If you are in-house and need to know how to implement the HIPAA privacy and security rules or are interested in learning new negotiating strategies for healthcare technology agreements, this is your program. If you are highly proficient in technology and need to remain on the cutting edge, you will find this program and the faculty enormously helpful in reaching that goal. If you are a technology neophyte, you will find the primers and the basic sessions beneficial in learning key issues in health and technology law.
