Program Description
Health Lawyers' annual Tax Program will return to Washington, DC, which ensures that various officials from Treasury and the IRS will dialogue with health lawyers about developments over the last year. This year has been an extremely active year on the tax and finance front. The Program will include breakouts on:

  • Specialty Hospitals
  • Incentive Compensation
  • Nonprofit to For-Profit Conversions
  • Tax Issues Associated with the Evolving Use of LLCs by Healthcare Organizations
  • Sarbanes-Oxley and Governance
  • Treasury Voluntary Guidelines
  • Tax Issues in Physician Practices
  • Joint Ventures
  • Attorney General Enforcement
  • Tax-Exempt Finance and Private Use
  • Drafting and Rendering Excess Benefit Tax Opinions

Members of the private bar and the IRS also will discuss the § 501(m) Regulations Project, recently launched by Treasury and the IRS to provide more clarity to various aspects of the § 501(m) rule.

During Friday's general session, a panel of experts will explore in detail an emerging joint venture model using participating bonds. These ventures combine traditional tax exempt bonds with contingent interest bonds (offered to physician-investors in lieu of equity) but raise a host of tax, financing, and compliance issues.

Whether you are a generalist who needs to know tax issues or a certified tax expert, you will not want to miss Health Lawyers' annual Tax Issues for Healthcare Organizations Program.
