Scott counsels and represents clients in a variety of industries ranging from health care and higher education to manufacturing. Scott is a Director and Deputy Group Head of the Labor and Employment and Employment Litigation Groups.  He is also a member of the Emerging Business and Healthcare Groups.
 
Experience
 

Scott’s areas of practice focus on representing employers in all types of litigation (trials and appeals) in federal and state courts nationwide; defending employers in investigations conducted by administrative agencies such as the EEOC, PHRC, DOL and NLRB; and conducting and overseeing internal corporate investigations of alleged employee misconduct.

Employers also seek Scott’s counsel regarding all aspects of their employment relationships.  Scott routinely trains managers and employees on legal and ethical compliance.  He also counsels higher education clients on student accommodation and related issues.

Scott also represents clients in employment-related intellectual property matters and in traditional labor settings, such as arbitration, NLRB proceedings and collective bargaining.

Professional and Community Involvement

Scott is very active in many professional and charitable endeavors.  

Scott currently serves on the executive board of the W. Edward Sell Chapter of the American Inns of Court and served as its president from 2006-2008.  Scott also serves as vice chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group for the American Healthcare Lawyers Association (“AHLA”) and was recently elected to serve a three-year term on the Federal Court Section Council of the Allegheny County Bar Association.  Scott is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. 

Scott serves as vice chair of the Board of Directors for the Good Samaritan Hospice of Pittsburgh.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America. 

Honors and Achievements

Scott is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, and in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers.  Scott is rated “AV” (very high to preeminent) according to the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings.  The AV certification mark is a significant rating accomplishment, a testament to the fact that an attorney’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence.  Scott has also been named a Fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Allegheny County Bar Foundation.

Scott often speaks at conferences and symposia in Pennsylvania and nationally for a long list of organizations, including the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the American College of Health Care Administrators ("ACHCA"), the American Health Lawyers Association ("AHLA"), the Pennsylvania Directors of Nursing Association ("PADONA"), the Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profit Homes for the Aged ("PANPHA"), Leadership Healthcare, and the American Association for Homes and Services for the Aging ("AAHSA").

Scott has written or co-authored countless articles during the past decade.  Scott also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for the AHLA's publication of Federal Healthcare Laws and Regulations.
