Sean Patrick Murphy is Senior Vice President, Corporate General Counsel and Assistant Secretary to Solaris Health System, a multi-hospital integrated delivery system located in Edison, New Jersey. Solaris includes three hospitals (two (2) acute care and an 85 bed rehabilitation hospital); three (3) long term care facilities (combined 600 beds); assisted living, homecare and hospice. Significant teaching-research programs include the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute, the JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute; and Center for Head Injuries, nationally recognized for it treatment and care of traumatic head injury and coma patients.

Mr. Murphy professional background is combination of health care administration and law. Prior to becoming an attorney, he was a hospital administrator, including having served as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force Medical Service Corps, where he obtained the rank of Captain. He also has held various academic appointments, including professorial lecturer at the George Washington University graduate program in health services administration. He has authored numerous articles in a variety of publications, including The Health Lawyer, New Jersey Medicine, and the New Jersey Lawyer, and the Health Law Handbook, edited by Alice Gosfield. His most recent publication, co-authored by Michael Peregrine, entitled: Corporate Governance: “A Practical Approach to Governance for Hospital and Health System Boards” will appear in the upcoming 2008 edition of the Health Law Handbook.

Mr. Murphy received his A.B. with distinction from Rutgers College, his Masters Degree in Health Services Administration from George Washington University and his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, Newark. He is a member of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Bars.
