Nathan Kottkamp is an associate with McGuireWoods in Richmond, Virginia and the founder and chair of National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD). Nathan concentrates on an array of health care issues, including Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, compliance, fraud and abuse, patient rights and clinical ethics, and advance directives.

As chair of NHDD, Nathan has led a nationwide effort to educate Americans about the importance of advance healthcare planning and to provide them with the resources necessary to execute their advance directives. Nathan is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and currently co-chairs the Young Lawyers Division Health Law Section Committee for the Virginia Bar Association. He has previously served on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Greater Richmond Chapter and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Central Virginia Chapter. Nathan is also a member of the Virginia State Bar, the American Bar Association, the Central Virginia Health Executives Group and the Commissioner’s Healthcare Workforce Award Review Committee for the Virginia Department of Health.

Nathan has been named as one of Virginia’s Legal Elite for Young Lawyers by Virginia Business and one of seven Virginia Super Lawyer “Rising Stars” by Law & Politics Magazine. He is recognized as an expert on advance directives and medical ethics with numerous speaking and engagements and publications on these subjects.

Nathan received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburg School of Law where he served on the staff of the University of Pittsburgh Law Review. He also received a M.A. in Bioethics from the University of Pittsburgh.
