Hon. Troy King

Troy KingAlabama Attorney General
State of Alabama Attorney General's Office
Montgomery, AL

Alabama Attorney General Troy King has been serving the people of Alabama since 1995. He has served as Alabama’s Attorney General since March of 2004.

Attorney General King's approach to his job can best be described as energetic, hands-on, and pro-active. He is a champion of law enforcement, an advocate for victims of crime, and a defender of Alabama's families—particularly those most vulnerable—our children and our elderly.

Attorney General King has worked hard in the legislative arena with great success. He has achieved passage of many important new laws, including laws to fight the methamphetamine crisis, laws that have reduced the domestic production of methamphetamines in our state by 57%, and the Community Notification Act which increased the punishments for sex offenders and provided truth in sentencing for the worst offenders – child predators. Attorney General King also toughened Alabama's child pornography laws, closing loopholes and opening strong new avenues to prosecute pedophiles. He has also overhauled Alabama’s identity theft laws to upgrade its penalties to felony status. He wrote and passed new laws to better hold those parents and caregivers who expose children to the dangerous and toxic environment of illegal drug operations to account. When the Protection of an Unborn Child bill was being threatened in the legislature, Attorney General King helped put it back on track and now, Alabama's children are protected whether they are in the womb or in the world.

General King has prosecuted illegal gambling, corrupt public officials, and murderers. He is a familiar face at Parole Board hearings where he defends the rights of victims and their families.

General and Mrs. King are the proud parents of three young children. They are members at First Baptist Church in Montgomery, where General King teaches three-year-olds' Sunday School.
