Lauren is an associate in the firm's Health Law practice, where she advises health care entities on a variety of legal issues, including regulatory and compliance issues arising under Medicare, Medicaid, and other third-party payment programs. She has counseled a broad range of health care clients, including hospitals, health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, independent diagnostic testing facilities, and copayment assistance foundations. Examples of Lauren’s work include:
- Counseling clients in the context of corporate transactions to comply with federal and state regulatory requirements, federal and state anti-kickback and self-referral statutes, and state licensing requirements
- Assisting clients with both governmental and internal audits
- Representing clients in communications with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
- Drafting compliance policies, assisting with compliance program implementation, and providing day-to-day advice on compliance-related matters.
Lauren has specific expertise in Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D through her representation of organizations offering or providing services to Medicare Advantage and Part D plans.
Before joining Mintz Levin, Lauren was a health insurance specialist in the Program Integrity Group at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. She had responsibilities for program integrity concerns inherent in the implementation of the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit, and she helped in the drafting of the Agency's guidance to Part D Plan Sponsors regarding their programs to control fraud, waste, and abuse. Lauren’s résumé also includes serving as the Director of Government Relations at the National Association for the Support of Long Term Care, a trade association that represents providers and suppliers to long-term care settings.
Lauren is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia, and is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. She received her B.A. from the University of Rochester and her J.D. from Seton Hall Law School, where she was the Notes and Comments Editor for The Constitutional Law Journal, and also served as the chair of the Women's Law Forum. In 2002, Lauren received the National Association of Women Lawyers, Outstanding Woman Law Graduate Award.
