Adam H. Greene is the Senior Health Information Technology and Privacy Specialist at the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR). He is advises OCR on the application of the HIPAA Privacy Rule in the area of health IT, including electronic health records, personal health records, and health information exchanges. Additionally, Mr. Greene represents OCR in Department matters related to health IT, such as by acting as a HIPAA Privacy and Security Rule subject matter expert to the HIT Policy and Standards Committees.
Prior to joining OCR, Mr. Greene served as an attorney advisor in the Office of General Counsel/Civil Rights Division for the Department of Health and Human Services. He advised the Office for Civil Rights in regard to the policy, implementation and enforcement of the HIPAA Privacy Rule. Additionally, he advised the Department on matters related to privacy, including issues involving health IT.
Prior to his service at HHS, Mr. Greene was an attorney with the law firm of Powers, Pyles, Sutter & Verville, P.C. There, he counseled hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and orthotics and prosthetics practices on compliance with the HIPAA regulations, Medicare and Medicaid matters involving reimbursement and fraud and abuse, and coding and coverage issues.
Mr. Greene earned a Juris Doctor and a Master of Public Health from George Washington University in 2000, and a Bachelor of Arts in biology from The Johns Hopkins University in 1997.
