Ms. Granade has a nationally recognized reputation in the fields of HIPAA privacy and security law and telemedicine and e-health law. She assists her clients with privacy and security concerns related to the use and disclosure of patient information. Ms. Granade also provides compliance assistance to clients confronted with privacy and security breaches by overseeing and conducting HIPAA compliance investigations.
Ms. Granade’s clients have asked her to analyze privacy complaints, conduct workforce member interviews, review audit trails, investigate the events surrounding an alleged violation, review and if necessary revise policies and procedures, draft notice letters to individuals potentially impacted by a privacy and/or security breach, recommend workforce member sanctions when appropriate, and respond to federal and state authorities concerning privacy and security concerns. Frequently, Ms. Granade represents hospitals and other “covered entities” as these organizations defend themselves during privacy investigations brought by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights, or OCR. Her clients consist of several of the largest hospital chains in the nation, as well as non-profit hospital systems, academic medical institutions and many other participants in the health care industry.
In addition to her expertise with patient information privacy and security laws, Ms. Granade assists hospitals, medical schools, health insurance companies, Internet health care companies, and equipment manufacturers and distributors with issues related to research and clinical trials, liability and risk management, Food and Drug Administration regulations, and third-party payor reimbursement. Ms. Granade also has assisted the investment banking industry on numerous occasions with health care company acquisitions.
