Dawn G. Benson received her Juris Doctor with High Honors from the University Of North Carolina School Of Law in 1981. She practiced law with the Albany, Georgia firm of Watson, Spence, Lowe and Chambless for almost twenty seven years, primarily in the representation of physicians, hospitals and nursing homes in medical malpractice, regulatory, business and employment matters. In January 2009, Ms. Benson became Associate General Counsel for Phoebe Putney Health System, a non-profit health system including a 443 bed teaching hospital in Albany, Georgia, as well as three smaller hospitals and a physician group employing approximately eighty doctors in a wide variety of specialties.
Ms. Benson is admitted to practice in each of the state courts and in each of the federal district courts in Georgia as well as the Eleventh Circuit U. S. Court of Appeals and the U. S. Supreme Court. She has served by appointment of the Supreme Court of Georgia as the Chair of the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution and has served by appointment of the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia on the Attorney Discipline Grievance Committee and on the Merit Selection Panel charged with recommending candidates for U. S. Magistrate. She also holds leadership positions on a number of community boards in Albany where she resides with her husband, Ken, and their two sons.
