Earl J. Barnes, II is the Deputy General Counsel at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH). Prior to joining NMH, he was Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel at Rockford Health System (RHS).  Previously he was a partner in the Chicago office of Gardner Carton & Douglas, which is now Drinker, Biddle, & Reath.  While in private practice, Mr. Barnes' practice was focused on the general representation of health care and other institutions.  This representation included large health systems, insurance companies, managed care organizations, physician groups, home health agencies, long-term care and assisted living facilities, health maintenance organizations and various other health care entities. 

Mr. Barnes has written and spoken on issues involving corporate transactions and regulatory matters, which impact business structures.

Mr. Barnes is a member of the Board of Trustees of Lake Forest College.  Mr. Barnes is also a member of the Saint Xavier University President’s Advisory Council for the School of Nursing. 

Mr. Barnes is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School (J.D. 1989).  He received his undergraduate degree in History from Lake Forest College (B.A., cum laude, 1986).
