Steve Altman is an attorney with extensive experience in complex
civil litigation, alternative dispute resolution, management, and
training. After 27 years with the Department of Justice, where, as an
Assistant Director in the Commercial Litigation Branch, he specialized
in False Claims Act (FCA) and qui tam litigation, Steve opened his own
practice to concentrate on consulting services for counsel handling FCA
matters, as well as negotiation, mediation, and teaching alterative
dispute resolution.
Steve serves as a mediator in a broad range of business and
commercial litigation and participates in the mediation programs of the
U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, as well as the DC
Superior Court.
Since 1999 he has been an Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown
University Law Center, where he teaches negotiation. Prior to working
for the Department of Justice, he served in the Air Force. He graduated
from Duke University with a BA in 1970 and received his JD from the
Syracuse College of Law in 1973.
