Susan Adams graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School. During two years of subsequent graduate studies in health policy and bioethics, she did research on tobacco litigation. She had a general health law practice as an attorney for the academic medical center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison until the spring of 2005, serving the faculty and administrators in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, as well as research administrators in the Graduate School. Her practice included regulatory advice to the campus institutional review boards and implementation of the HIPAA Privacy Rule throughout the academic medical center and for the research community.

Susan recently became the director of the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects at Dartmouth College, which serves the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and its affiliates, as well as the College. Susan was a participating author on ethical and legal issues for a manual on health information registries soon to be published by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality in the Department of Health and Human Services. Before embarking on her legal career, Susan was an analytical biochemist at the Medical College of Wisconsin in the Midwest Children's Cancer Center.
