As the culmination of AHLA's educational year, the Annual Meeting provides a forum for networking and interaction with colleagues, friends, and family as well as an outstanding educational event.
We are pleased to announce Dr. Peter R. Orszag, Director of the Congressional Budget Office will give this year's Keynote Address. Dr. Orszag is perhaps the most qualified person in the country to show how persistent healthcare cost growth will challenge both our government and your clients in the years to come. Testimonies that Dr. Orszag recently provided to the Senate Budget Committee, in his words "the nation's central long term fiscal challenge," rising healthcare costs are posted on the CBO home page.
Dr. Orszag also authors a blog that healthcare legal and legislative experts check often to see how CBO is analyzing different issues. You will not want to miss his insightful analysis of the healthcare environment.
Following Dr. Orszag's address will be a special presentation, sponsored by FTI Healthcare, on the Candidates' Perspectives on Healthcare Reform. This session will feature representatives of the McCain campaign and the Democratic party who will discuss the potential effect of the issue of healthcare reform on the 2008 Presedential election, and the implications of such efforts on providers.
The program will also include the always popular Year in Review and more than 35 breakout sessions covering a broad range of health law topics including fraud and abuse, antitrust, tax, hospital issues, physician issues, business transactions, life sciences, and reimbursement. The faculty of leading private practitioners, in-house, academicians and government representatives will provide analysis and updates on topics such as:
- Phase III: The Stark Realities
- The Evolution of Legal Ethical Behavior in Cyberspace
- How Hospitals Are Employing Physicians without Buying Their Practices
- Healthcare and Private Equity: Trends, Tips and Tools
- Update on Long Term Care Issues: The Key Legislative, Regulatory and Business Trends
- "Quality", Concept or Practice: What It Means to Providers and the Government
- Representing Physician Owned Ambulatory Surgery Centers in Formation and Dealing Issues Affecting Ownership
- Off-Label Use of Drugs, Devices — Federal Limitations, Medicare Coverage and the Practice of Medicine
