Program Description

The Physicians Law Institute will provide a focused analysis of the legal challenges faced by physicians and their counsel. Attendees new to this area, can attend the Representing Physicians Primer, early Monday morning. This year's program will include breakout sessions on:
  • Utilizing Non-Physician Providers: Maximize Production and Minimize Risk
  • The New Dating Game: Physician-Hospital Collaborative Relationships in 2007
  • Strategies for Ensuring Compliance, Assessing Voluntary Disclosure, Conducting Internal Investigations
  • Imaging Joint Ventures – Why They are Proliferating
  • Credentialing Nightmares (advanced)
  • Spilling the Beans – Protecting Yourself and the Attorney-Client Privilege during an Investigation
  • Retail Medicine – New Opportunities and New Challenges for Physicians and Physician Organizations
The program will also include a joint plenary session with the Hospitals program on Tuesday, February 6, in which Beth Schermer and Jack Schroder will discuss the Top Legal Developments for Hospitals and Physicians that have occured in the past year. Attendees can register for just the Physicians program or "add-on" the Hospitals and Health Systems Law Institute and attend three days of programming (February 5-7) for a more comprehensive look at the intertwined and distinct legal issues facing two of the most important components of the healthcare community.

If you register for the Physicians program only, you can attend sessions at the Hospitals program on Tuesday, February 6, but you will not receive the written materials or CLE credit for those sessions. Take advantage of the opportunity to register for both the Physicians and the Hospitals programs and get three full days of quality education and the full set of written materials from both programs.

Two Practice Groups will hold a joint luncheon during the Physicians Law Institute:

If you are registering for the Hospitals Law Institute, you may also want to attend the luncheon sponsored by the following Practice Groups:

For each lunch, there is an additional fee of $38 for members of the Practice Group hosting the lunch and $43 for AHLA Members not enrolled in that PG and Non-Members. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.

CLE Information

This program will be worth approximately 12.75 credits (including 1.0 ethics credit) for 60-minute states and approximately 16.8 credits (including 1.2 ethics credit) for 50-minute states. Participants will be given CLE Request forms at the program. Forms must be completed and returned to AHLA staff to receive credit. The sessions, unless otherwise designated, are intermediate to advanced in level. There are no prerequisites required to register for this program.

This seminar will be worth approximately 16.0 CPE credits. AHLA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
